I was reminded of an old reference today as I was in my pajamas on my bed with my 2 year old daughter, who is almost fluent in speech by the way (I homeschool). As I was almost falling to sleep, I hear my pajama pants begin to rip! I look down because I was half way napping (she was supposed to be napping too...lol). Then she says, "Mommie, oh no, your pants are broken."
See, these were my FAVORITE Betty bop PJ pants (pink and green with Betty and her puppy eating breakfast all over) and a small tear had began to form a few weeks ago. I caught it since I was a seamstress (can sew my butt off), I decided to mend the hole. Well, these pants are OLD and after washing them a few times later, another small tear began to form but I did not see it until today. But my daughter saw it and just casually ripped it open. "Oh no" I thought, now my favorite pj pants are trash.
Throw it Away!
Well, after inspecting them, I see other tiny rips forming as well around the place I had sewn (bet you are worried that I am not so good of a sewer- no, its not that, I admit that I was just being cheap cuz the pants were VERY OLD!) I then began to wonder about this old reference in the bible about new wine. While its a biblical reference, it still has its place in business, in home and in general life.
"[36] He told them this parable: "No one tears a patch from a new garment and sews it on an old one. If he does, he will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. [37] And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. [38] No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. [39] And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, 'The old is better.' "
-Luke 5:36-39
Throw it in the trash is what it is basically saying here. Whether its actually garments, vessels, our mind-frames, our old natures, etc. Do not put new wine in old wineskin lest the skin break. New wine belongs in a new vessel that has no holes, no rips, no tears. If you put wine in the old one, you will have nothing to drink. And that is exactly what happened to my favorite pj pants. They are trash now.
The lesson here is a wake call on a cheap mentality. Stop being cheap and stop looking for easy and quick fixes because your stuff will effectually become trash and you will be dead broke, busted and disgusted- as my grandmother used to say. Which brings me to talk about dealings in business. A smart business person will take the time to formulate a game plan of action that will almost guarantee success. A foolish one looks for quick fixes and does not really get the full blessings that come when you have proper training, a correct game plan, etc. etc.
See to you, you may not think ripped pj pants mean anything, but when it happened, lights went on in my head that caused an effect in my mental action. I was mentally simulated into pursuing a spiritual and mental change from something so simple as ripped pants.
Being in-tuned with your self
When you are in-tuned with nature, or your mental or spiritual insides, anything this small can cause change in anything you are doing. I am a business person, therefore it reminded me to make sure that when I do business, I never take the easy way out or the quick fix. I have seen many people get burnt out doing business online because of cheap fixes. Are you one of these people? Are you spending more money that you are getting back on all the info you see our there? If so you will be dead broke so fast!
Are you one who would like to learn how to change your thinking so that that you do not produce something that will eventually go in the trash as well? If so, it really starts with our thinking. Change your outlook, it will change your future. And yes, I am throwing out the pj pants as soon as I wake up, was too lazy to do it today...lol. Even the best business man or woman or even the next successful person that you know has one of those days. Funny how I learned to move forward in my online networking business just from having ripped pants.
